Iran - Iraq War Pictures

The war began when Iraq invaded Iran on September 22, 1980 and ended on August 20, 1988.
Unknown, est. 1,000,000 - 2,000,000 dead; includes 100,000 Kurds killed by Iraqis. Numbers also include more than 100,000 Iranian victims of Saddam Hussein's chemical and biological weapons during the eight-year war.

The USA backed Iraq with military, intelligence, and economic aid.

After the war, Iraq was in debt by $75 billion.
After the war, thousands of Iraqi POW wanted to claim asylum in Iran.

Fair analysis: Iraq started the War, Iran prolonged the War

Warning: Some of the images are disturbing

  • What was Saddam thinking? Did he honestly think he was going to win.

  • with a picture of that gohesag everywhere

    in their hands

    disgusting.

  • Iraq-Iran war was Saddam's third major act carried out for his Zionist handlers.

His fourth round of duties was to facilitate the invasion of Iraq and ensure the subsequent occupation by the so-called coalition forces...

    1. If Iraqis were intelligent people would they have allowed Saddam to ruin their country and effectively commit them to genocide?

    2. If Iraqis were intelligent people would they have attacked their big neighbor?

    3. If Iraqis were intelligent people wouldn't they have seen what was being planned for them all along?

  • If the bankers get their hands in the affairs of Iran, like they did to Iraq,

They would drain the wealth out of Iran and suck it dry, then toss it aside and move to somewhere else.

look at what has happened to Iraq from 1980 to 2006.

  • The european bankers want to control the islamic banking system.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:42 PM

  • As to why Iraqis let Saddam rule, that very statement is oxymoronic and reveals your lack of intelligence.

Unlike the installation of the khomeiniist government, via popular vote, Saddam Hussein came to power through a CIA coup, meaning the people had no say in it and were forced to accept his regime.

So please, get your facts straight before spouting nonsense.

By Blogger R. Farabi, at 12:49 PM

  • The USA should hand Saddam Hussein over to the Iranian government. I would enjoy seeing that. The Iranians would thank us to no end.

By Blogger Steve Savage, at 10:06 PM

  • Can anyone tell the Iraqi apart from Iranian?

they look pretty much the same.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:50 AM

  • You can tell mainly by the uniforms and weaponry they hold, and that iranian soldiers tended to sport beards.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:23 AM

  • To one of the guys who said "If Iraqis were intelligent people would they have allowed Saddam to ruin their country and effectively commit them to genocide?" and the following questions.

Well you can't really do much if a dictator is in control of the country.

Iraqis didn't attack there "big" neighbour, Saddam did. If you oppose a dictator, you get executed.

No, not really. Saddam shot people who opposed him before he was even elected...

  • As an iranian i can support neither side as both were manipulative and crazy. We have all lost friends to that war.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:46 AM

  • You took me back to 25 years ago! I was there fighting for 3 years. I just know when you are there, you don't think about anything except the man next to you. The man that you are trying to save. Your best friend who came along with you.The rest will be a history.

May God rest their souls. especially my friend Jamshied who died in my arm.

    God Bless All

  • To the person who was questioning the Intelligence of the Iraqis I say..

If you knew how Saddam was ruling us you wouldn't question this intelligence because if anyone of us by just thinking to reject Saddam's rule that person and his whole family and maybe the tribe as well will be sent behind the sun.. Saddam was a dictator and a special kind of a dictator and so special even Hitler will look like a small boy next to him..
Have you ever heard about the acid vessels and human meat grinders??? no???? go read about them.

  • Saddam's insane war on Iran was the opening episode of US/Zionist endless wars for the region and its OIL wealth. The sequence of events is not even halfway through yet as Af-Pak and Yemen conflict testify. However, these US instigated miscalculations have already bankrupted the imploding US economy and led to the transfer of economic and geo-political power to Asia, with China as the biggest beneficiary of American follies.

These Islamophobic wars are a surefire US failure and harbinger of eventual total American collapse.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:35 PM

  • A fair analysis of this unfortunate is the duplicity of the Arabs and their fake pan-Islamic hypocrisy. Saddam was a US creation and the Iran-Iraq was a proxy war supported bt the US, Zionists and Britain to weaken the Iranian revolution and seek revenge for their "loss" of Iranian gas station.

Khomeni used the war and the blood of Iran's youth to consolidate the Islamic Revolution. The war by 1982was pretty much stalemated as Iran had expelled Iraq from almost all the captuted territory in Khuzestan and Ilam.

Opportunists like Rafsanjani who had a vested interest in driving out the pragmatists like Bani-Sadr used the war to expand their powerbase and eliminate their opponents. The most disgraceful episode of this mass slaughter was the UN and "civilized" world's silence and condoning of Saddams' use of gas and other biological weapons. Over 100,000 Iranians perished in these attacks and many were scarred for life and suffered horrendous medical symptoms till death.

This war also exposed the hollowness of the Islamic "ummah" (community) as almost all the Arabs supported Iraq and rest of the Muslims just turned a blind eye. Just Syria due to its Ba'ath ideological conflict with Iraq and Libya's mercurial Gaddafi gave lukewarm support to Iran. Turkey remained neutral, while the Wahabbi fundentalist regime of begging bowl Pakistan indebted to the corrupt House of Saud openly supported Iraq and even offered pilots to train the Iraqi airfore along with the French, British and Russians.

Epypt, Jordan, Sudan and other impoverished Arab nations supplied Iraq with manpower. The Persian Gulf petro-pimpdoms of UAE, Kuwait,Bahrain, Qatar and Oman donated generously to Saddam's war effort. By 1988, Iraq owed over $200 billion to the Arab sheikhdoms. The bankruptcy of Iraqi economy eventually drove Saddam to occupy Kuwait and meet his ultimate doom at the hands of his US mentors.

Iran basically withstood an assault by the whole world. In all fairness, the sheer bravery and tenacity of the Artesh (military),Pasdaran(IRGC) and the Basij volunteers surprised the world and even the mullah regime itself. It also highlighted the glaring fact that nationalism and Persian love of their land ran very deep indeed. Most Iranian youth sacrificed their lives for Iran and not for any particular religious idealogy, this included the very brave pilots who flew into certain death right out of the mullah's jails.

This may be a good point to keep in mind for any other future would be aggressor before they also make a massive miscalculation of attacking Iran.

However, the Iran-Iraq war was the opening shot in the series of endless wars the US initiated for its energy quest, delusional global domination agenda and the protection of Zionist goals in the region. Iran in 1979, as today, poses the only real challenge to US and Zionist domination goals in the region. The current series of neo-imperialist conflicts from Somalia, Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq and Afghanistan-Pakistan are the continuation of the new "great game" for Middle-Eastern and Central Asian energy resources. The wars for OIL and ZIONISM still have a long course to run.

  • I was wondering if there was any kind of protest or resistance by the young in either country. Something along the lines of American youth protesting during the Vietnam war. I know the resistance could be as overt but was there any underground type of resistance? Any anti war music?
